Two Status Layers
Individual Entry State → Describes the condition of one Chronicle Entry.
These layers should remain separate so the status of the Chronicle system cannot be mistaken for the state of an individual historical record.
Chronicle Status describes the institutional state of the Chronicle system itself. It should not be confused with the Lifecycle State, Entry Status, Verification State, Publication State, or other state values assigned to an individual Chronicle Entry.
Chronicle is operational as a production historical-preservation system. Phase VII production schemas are complete, Phase VIII Validation and Entry Production Procedure architecture has been exercised in production, and CHR-2026-0001 is now Chronicle's first canonical published production Entry.
These layers should remain separate so the status of the Chronicle system cannot be mistaken for the state of an individual historical record.
System Status describes Chronicle's current institutional maturity, operational readiness, implementation stage, and production availability.
Chronicle has completed its transition from pre-operational architecture into production operation. Phase VII production schemas are complete, Phase VIII Validation and Entry Production Procedure architecture has been exercised, the operational dry run passed, and the first canonical production Entry has been published.
The canonical Entry model, Preservation Eligibility, identifiers, Controlled Values, Relationships, Provenance, Sources, Evidence, Verification, Lifecycle, Versioning, Corrections, authority boundaries, production Base Schema, Certification Event-Type Profile, Validation architecture, and major historical-preservation rules are now defined at the architectural or production-contract level.
Chronicle is production operational. CHR-2026-0001 completed Preservation Eligibility, authoritative-reference review, schema / Profile construction, formal Verification, formal Validation, the separate Publication Gate, Publication, and durable production preservation as Entry Version 1.
Chronicle's public institutional documentation now accompanies an operating production record system. Documentation remains subject to reconciliation and maintenance, but Chronicle's production status is established by the published canonical Entry and completed production procedure rather than documentation alone.
Phase VII production schema work is complete. Chronicle has a production Chronicle Base Schema, machine-readable JSON Schema, Certification Event-Type Profile, and Phase VII profile-validation PASS. Supporting-record schemas remain intentionally limited to what production use justifies.
Current work centers on post-publication reconciliation, maintaining consistency across institutional pages, strengthening reciprocal Suite references, and applying Chronicle's established production procedure to future qualifying Occurrences.
The state of an individual Chronicle Entry is represented through specific, controlled state systems. These values should not be used as Chronicle-wide institutional status labels.
Describes where an Entry is in its broader institutional journey.
Chronicle does not currently treat a generic Entry Status as a canonical production state system. Lifecycle State, Verification State, and Publication State answer distinct institutional questions and should remain explicit.
Describes the current result of Chronicle's Verification Procedure.
Describes the Entry's position within the controlled publication process.
An Entry can legitimately hold different values across these state systems.
These values describe different institutional questions and should remain distinct. Chronicle should not add a generic Entry Status merely to restate them.
Chronicle's institutional status—such as pre-operational, operational, or retired— is system-level information.
It should not be stored in an Entry's Lifecycle State, Verification State, or Publication State merely because similar words may appear in ordinary language.
The August 20 operational dry run completed with PASS. The August 22 production implementation then exercised the same architecture through formal assignment, Verification, Validation, Publication Gate approval, and publication of CHR-2026-0001.
Chronicle has crossed the production-operation threshold. Remaining work is maintenance and institutional reconciliation rather than prerequisite work for initial operation.
Chronicle demonstrated operational readiness by moving a qualifying Occurrence through the complete institutional lifecycle.
Chronicle reached production operation ahead of its original September 2026 build target. Readiness, rather than calendar timing, drove the transition.
On August 22, 2026, CHR-2026-0001 became Chronicle's first canonical published production Entry. The remaining work now focuses on cleanup, reconciliation, interoperability, and continued production use.
Status should communicate institutional reality without compressing different state systems into one label.
The goal is transparent progress, not premature claims of production readiness.
